Message from the Director

Communication at QSI International School of Astana is very important. We, as a school, work hard to ensure that parents and students have the information they need in a timely manner. In order to achieve this, we use a number of communication channels to share what is going on in our community. They are:

  • Home room or Advisory teacher regular class newsletters

  • Direct teacher email communication

  • Bi-monthly school-wide newsletter

  • School social media (Instagram and Facebook) posts

  • Direct emails from the school administration office

Please make sure that you are tied into our various communication channels. If you need support or have questions, please reach out to us.

Communication is a two-way street. There are times that a parent needs to communicate with the school about an issue that needs to be addressed. Our communication framework values place emphasis on contacting the person closest to the issue, then step-by-step escalating issues that remain unresolved. We do this while assuming positive intent of all. This will help keep the conversations productive as we all want a positive, healthy, and engaging learning environment for our students and children.

So, if there is a challenge in your child's class:

  1. The first person to address the issue with is the class teacher. They are best suited to immediately solve any problem. Please contact them through email, our official tool for school communication. WhatsApp should not be used for these types of communication.

  2. If the problem has not been resolved, we invite you to then contact our school counselor, Ms. Mandy if the issue is social/emotional or our Director of Instruction, Christopher Konitz if the issue is academic or related to instruction.

  3. Usually, 99% of all issues can be solved within these first two steps, but in extraordinary or sticky unresolved issues after following this framework, please contact me.

We hope that this year will be full of great experiences for everyone at QSI. Good communication will be key to a healthy, growing community.

PSG Spotlight: Tony Parr

In our ongoing series of introductions to the new PSG Executive Board, we are delighted to introduce you to Tony Parr, our PSG Vice-President.

While Tony has been residing in Astana for a year now, he has recently joined the PSG team. His wife, Carole, serves as a diplomat at the Canadian Embassy, and their two charming daughters, Mila and Lili, are enrolled in Mr. Kim's and Ms. May's classes.

Now, when it comes to Tony's accent, it's not Canadian but distinctly British! He brings a wealth of experience from his tenure in the British government, having served in various locations worldwide, including Iraq, Canada, Moscow, and numerous other destinations. He even ventured into the realm of Canadian government work in Ottawa and continues to assist the embassy with occasional tasks.

Much like Stefanie, Tony is dedicated to contributing to our community by actively participating in extracurricular activities, such as the WOLF program, early morning fitness training, and cross-country adventures.

Here's an interesting tidbit: Tony's career didn't begin in government service. In fact, he holds a PhD in Physics and started his professional journey in academia. So, if you ever need an ace up your sleeve for science-related questions in trivia quizzes, Tony is your go-to expert! 🚀🧪

We consider ourselves fortunate in the QSI community and the Parent School Group to have Tony's commitment and dedication in support of our children!
